Don's Other Interests

Don spends the bulk of his time focused on the BPL conspiracy, and defending the concept of freedom of information, but that's not all the man does. One look at Don's posting history will show you that Don posts to scores (or is it hundreds?) of groups.

Much like his activities in soc.libraries.talk, he has a tendency to post big questions, and then rarely (or never) follows up on them. But don't take our word for it, feel free to browse these humble (and eclectic) offerings, or browse through other posts of your choosing through DejaNews.

As an eternal seeker of knowledge, Don prefers to know exactly where his information comes from.

Real true story behind the temperature index rather than speculating

Forum:   ne.weather

1. What is the real true story behind the temperature index, not the
usually submitted speculative humor, about how ABC World News Now
compiles and calculates it for display overnight on the hour and
half hour after reading the news?

2. Exactly how have the ABC World News Now temperature index numbers
   varied over time?

Someone out there with knowledge and a certain zen might have the contacts to get the real true information extracted from primary sources.

Don also has a tendency to ask questions that could be easily answered by sources he already has access to. After all his time on the internet, you'd think Don would know how to use a search engine.

cable tv or public access list servers, web links and news groups

What other news groups, web links or list servers offer an opportunity to write your views regarding cable tv or public access?

Don keeps his eyes open, but anyone can be the target of a prankster or spammer, right? In the following pair of posts, a bulletin about hotmail addresses (which include Don's dsaklad@hotmail.com address) that have been involved in spamming is posted to news.admin.net-abuse.bulletins. Don's follow-up indicates he's confused by it. To be clear, it's likely that Don's address was forged. Also, the bulletin here is heavily edited to show only Don's address, instead of the full list.

Don's response is one of his more humorous.

Where better than rec.backcountry to ask questions about foot care? Don always knows where to go to get answers (even if relatively few people respond to his queries).

orthopedists with foot subspecialty certification

Would it be better to be evaluated by both an othopedist with subspecialty certification in the foot and a podiatrist than by either one?

How many visits over how long could it take to manage arch pain?

Again with the feet. Considering the amount of time Don spends in libraries, you might expect him to read books on the subjects he's interested in. But then, I suppose that would take away from time on Usenet.

wrapping techniques

What information can be found via the net or other resources about all the different wrapping techniques that can be used to support the foot or mitigate foot pain which sports medicine clinicians and physical therapists may try? Doesn't Johnson and Johnson or other companys have booklets for professionals to refer about wrapping technique?

At least Don gets around. There's nothing like a bit of travel to put a fresh perspective on life. By the way, this post actually got some helpful and informative responses.
